Royal Berkshire Hospital

Having initially installed the cabling infrastructure for a 600 extension telephone system at Battle Hospital in 1986, NBC were then invited to take on the maintenance and moves and changes work on the telephone cabling network at Royal Berkshire Hospital in 1990, the major hospital within the Trust.

Some 3 years later NBC were given the opportunity to tender for data work and in the ensuing years have virtually cabled the entire site with a Molex Category 5e cabling system to serve both voice and data networks.

With a major PFI over recent years, substantial sections of the original hospital have been demolished and replaced with State of the Art buildings and technology.

NBC have installed substantial amounts of new duct, with some to buildings over 600 metres away, crossing the A4 triple carriageway London Road on two separate projects, acting on behalf of the Client to arrange all the necessary road opening licences.

The main site covers approximately 32 acres and there are a significant number of other buildings outside of the curtilage of the main site.

Opened on 27th May 1839 on 4 acres of land donated by Lord Sidmouth, the hospital had Queen Victoria as its Patron. Battle Block, the final stage of the major reconstruction, was opened by Queen Elizabeth in 2005.
